For those that have lived in Fort Myers since they were little, it’s hard to imagine the lot next to Publix on South Pointe Blvd to be home to anything more than grazing goats and cows.
That’s all planning to change, as a large scale apartment complex could be completed as early as 2022. Inspiration at South Pointe is set to have a variety of amenities, such as the typical pool, clubhouse, fitness center, playgrounds, and even a dog park. The complex also will have commercial shops adjacent to the CVS for restaurants and retail.
The property has been in The Terry Family, who has declined any comments on the sale, since 1954. When The Terry’s started purchasing, they originally purchased only a small portion of the property for $500. By 1960, The Terry Family had amassed 10 acres in what is now considered a prime location for Inspiration at South Pointe in an already largely developed area of Lee County.
The area seemingly has everything Zimmer Development wants for their Inspiration at South Pointe complex. With nearby retail, a strong demographic, and a short ride to downtown, the area lends itself to centralized living. While locals may be sad to see a long-standing landmark go, developers are looking at ways to continue to grow within the county. Finding unique locations within already established areas, as opposed to continuing to build in a sprawling manner, when environmental intrusion can be a major limiting factor in development.

Whether you’re for or against the development of Inspiration, there is one thing that can be agreed upon: the fact that this is truly a unique piece of property. Zimmer Development is planning to model its complex in the style of Grand Central, located off of U.S. 41. Think soaring 9-foot ceilings, private balconies, and a variety of design scheme options.
What type of retail options do you think the South Pointe area could benefit from welcoming into this new space? Will you be sad to see grazing cows replaced by grand condos at Inspiration at South Pointe?
